Needle Felting with Kay Petal

Just in from Alaska, fiber artist Kay Petal is offering a 3 Day Needle Felting Workshop.

In this 3-Day Needle Felting Workshop we will learn to create fully jointed needle felted dolls using only wool and single felting needles. We will explore advanced techniques for creating unique and expressive faces and strong and durable needle felted bodies with needle felted clothing. Our finished dolls will be approximately 12”-14” tall and each will truly be a one-of-a-kind original.

Day One

Morning session

After reviewing the materials and supplies we will begin by felting the basic parts that will be used in the construction of the core of the doll.

Afternoon Session

We will begin working on the head and face of our dolls. We will explore many techniques and options for needle felting expressive faces.

Day Two

Morning Session

We will begin by learning advanced facial sculpting techniques to really bring out the character in our faces including teeth and shading. We will finish by adding a neck and hair! Breaking ourselves away from the endless fun of sculpting faces, we will begin joining the body parts creating strong joints that will allow our dolls to flex and move nearly like we do!

Afternoon Session

We will be adding hands and feet with fingers and toes to our jointed bodies and then we will begin building up the body structure.

Day Three

Morning Session

After a review of our progress we will join our heads to our bodies and begin exploring the many options for clothing our dolls.

Afternoon Session

The afternoon session will be spent finishing our dolls and we will end our fun with a group photo session!

While this workshop is comprehensive and the techniques complex, it is suitable for complete newcomers to needle feting as well as those with experience.
